How To | 5 Must-Haves for a Backyard BBQ

It’s officially summer, and that means you can start looking forward to hosting a backyard BBQ for your friends and family! Before you get that grill going, make sure you’re not missing any these 5 must-haves for a backyard BBQ that’s sure to impress.

1. Food
A BBQ isn’t a BBQ without some good grub! Whether you go for a classic menu with hot dogs and hamburgers, or you want to get a little more creative, make sure you serve a main dish that will satisfy a crowd. If the thought of hovering over the grill for the whole evening has you dreading your own party, consider renting a Hot Dog Steamer to do all the work for you! Another key feature of any BBQ is the snacks. Chips, dips, salads and candy are no-brainers when it comes to quick and easy snacking. But why not think outside the box for your party? You can rent a Popcorn Machine or Sno-Cone Machine to make snacking part of the fun for your guests!

2. Drinks
Whether this is a family gathering or an adult party, you need to have some type of beverages for your guests while they’re socializing out in the hot sun. Fill up Glass Beverage Containers with water, iced tea, lemonade, or some sort of adult-only concoction. Not only do they bring a classic picnic look to your party, they are very good at keeping your beverages bug and dirt-free. For pre-packaged drinks like bottled water, soda, or beer, fill up a Galvanized Tub or Horse Trough with lots of ice and have your guests help themselves.

3. Table Settings & Décor
BBQs in the summer scream red, white and blue! Get festive with your table settings and go for the patriotic look. Our Red and White Check or Blue and White Check table drapes and napkins can get the look started with that classic picnic style. Whether you go with real or paper plates, try pairing them with a Wicker Charger to really impress your guests. Our White Lanterns are also a great patriotic décor option. Fill it with red flowers or candles to light up the night!

4. Entertainment
You can’t forget the entertainment! Lawn games are a lot of fun for party-goers of all ages. You can DIY or buy many popular backyard games like bean bag toss, horseshoes, bocce ball, ladder golf, giant Jenga, giant tic-tac-toe, twister… The list goes on! Or if you’re looking for a less active activity, there are countless fireside games you can try. Just take a seat around the Fire Pit and play 20 questions, 2 truths and 1 lie, the celebrity name game and more!

5. Seating
Now that you have enough food, drink and entertainment to draw guests in, you have to think about where they are all going to sit. It’s easy to overlook this detail when planning a big get-together in a place where you may not always need so much seating. Luckily there are some quick and easy fixes for a seat shortage. You can rent a wide variety of outdoor furniture, from a matching couch and chairs set (Monaco) to functional wooden chairs and side tables (Adirondack).
