How To | 7 Ways to Display Napkins

The napkin: A necessary and functional piece of any tablescape. But it doesn’t have to stop there. With so many stylish napkin options, you can really get creative and use them to spice up your place settings and tie into your theme.
Here are a couple step-by-step tutorials on different napkin folds and presentations to boost your tables to the next level.

1. Knotted
For a relaxed look, present your napkin in a simple knot. You can place the knotted linen on top of the plate, off to the side, or stack them into a basket for a buffet-style display. It’s simple, easy, and creates a truly unique look.

2. Pocket Fold
This napkin style requires a couple of steps but once you master it, the possibilities are endless. You can tuck a place card, menu, flower, greenery, or anything else into the pocket to tie the look together. Check out this video for a step-by-step tutorial on this fold.

3. Tied with Ribbon
This style can also be very versatile. For a neat and polished look, tie a single ribbon around your folded napkin and seal it with a sensible bow. For a more relaxed, boho look, try tying several different ribbons around the napkin and letting the strands drape down off the edge of the table.

4. Draped or Wrapped
You can’t go wrong with a classic. Try draping the napkin down at each place setting or wrapping the napkin around the plate to see how these tried-and-true methods fit into your theme.

5. Incorporating Nature
The place setting is a great place to add in details that you really want your guests to notice. Whether that’s a beautiful bloom or a delicate touch of greenery, tucking a little piece of nature into the napkin is sure to get attention. You can utilize the pocket fold or ribbon ties to hold in your touch of nature, or arrange the napkin around your nature centerpiece to really emphasize it.

6. Elegant Accessories
Whether it’s in a bouquet style or bow, you can secure a napkin into a beautiful arrangement with a ring or clip. These can be so customizable that there are endless styling options. With a little bit of creativity and some hot glue, you can create a napkin ring that’s perfectly suited for your event.

7. Layered Napkins
We’ve done a blog post before on Layered Linens, but don’t let the layers stop at the table drapes! Folding two napkins together creates another dimension to your place setting. You can mix and match colors, textures, and patterns, or opt for a two-tone display of the same shade.
